# In-App Notifications and Alerts — Strautomator Guide

> Learn how Strautomator notifies you about GearWear alerts, failed automations, FTP updates, system announcements, and authentication errors.

Strautomator keeps you informed about important events — from a GearWear component approaching its service threshold to an automation that failed to run — through its in-app notification system. All alerts are delivered inside the app, with optional email summaries if you accumulate unread messages.

## Where to Find Notifications

A **bell icon** in the top navigation bar shows your current unread notification count. Click the bell (or navigate to **Account → Notifications**) to open the Notifications page.

The Notifications page displays two sections:

* **Unread** — new notifications you have not yet seen, listed in reverse chronological order.
* **Read** — notifications you have already viewed, kept for reference.

Strautomator automatically marks notifications as read after you view them for a short moment on the page. You do not need to click each one individually.

## Types of Notifications

<CardGroup cols={2}>
  <Card title="GearWear Alerts" icon="gear">
    Receive a **pre-alert** when a component is approaching its configured distance or time threshold, and a **threshold alert** when it reaches or exceeds it. These remind you to inspect or replace components like chains, tyres, and brake pads before they become a safety issue.
  </Card>

  <Card title="Failed Automations" icon="triangle-exclamation">
    If an automation (recipe) fails to run — for example, because Strava rejects a field value — Strautomator sends a notification so you can review and fix the automation before it causes further issues.
  </Card>

  <Card title="FTP Auto-Update" icon="bolt">
    When the **FTP auto-update** feature (PRO) updates your Functional Threshold Power value in Strava, you receive a notification showing the updated FTP value so you can review the change.
  </Card>

  <Card title="System Announcements" icon="megaphone">
    Strautomator occasionally sends announcements about new features, planned maintenance, or important changes to the service. These appear in your notification feed so you do not miss anything significant.
  </Card>

  <Card title="Auth Error Alerts" icon="lock-open">
    If Strautomator loses its connection to your Strava, Garmin, Wahoo, or Spotify account — for example, because an OAuth token expired or access was revoked — an alert notifies you immediately so you can re-authenticate and avoid disruptions.
  </Card>

## Email Reminders

Strautomator monitors your unread notification count. If you accumulate a significant number of unread alerts without logging in to clear them, the system may send an email summary to the address registered on your account. This acts as a safety net so critical alerts (such as an auth error or a failed automation) do not go unnoticed.

<Note>
  Email reminders are only sent to a confirmed email address. If you have not yet added or verified an email address, visit **Account → Settings** to do so.
</Note>

## No Push Notifications

Strautomator does not currently support browser push notifications or mobile push notifications. All alerts are delivered in-app through the notification centre, with the optional email fallback described above.

<Tip>
  Make a habit of checking the bell icon after a block of activity recording — GearWear threshold alerts and FTP update notifications appear there as soon as your activities are processed, usually within a few minutes of syncing with Strava.
